METRO GROUP plans fresh produce cross-docking centre in Germany
01 February 2012
German retailer Metro Group has decided to build a new distribution centre for fresh produce in Frankenthal, Germany. The facility will serve Metro Cash & Carry stores as well as Real hypermarkets in the south and south-west of Germany, replace the hub in Sinsheim. It will be a pure cross-docking centre without the packing departments found in other of Metro's food DCs in which orders are picked. In Frankenthal, the goods will arrive ready-packed by suppliers. It is planned to be operational in April 2013 and will, according to Metro, have more than 130 workers.
